In the context of TeX (and especially LaTeX) it is often being talked about logical markup or logical design in contrast to the visual design. Our beloved system is said to be especially suitable for this kind of work, allowing for the separation of the contents of the publication from the description of its visual appearance. As the author of LaTeX argues, the first function of almost every LaTeX command is a (logical) description of the document's structure. The decisions as to the formatting can be made and changed at any point during the work (well, almost any…)
In this presentation I will look closer at LaTeX from this point of view and show, using examples from my own practice, how to organize work within the framework of logical markup. I will also show the limitations of this method.
